Born, raised and educated in Ames, Iowa, Kathleen moved to Portland, Oregon in 1975. Having worked at a radio station as a part-time job in college, Kathleen immediately got a job at KWJJ Radio in Portland. Her experience in promotions and copywriting led her to KATU-TV(ABC) in 1977. By 1980 Kathleen joined the staff of “AM Northwest” (live morning talk show) where she worked the next nine years, the last six as senior producer. In 1990 she followed her heart and became a television documentary writer and producer for KGW-TV (NBC). Fourteen months and four documentaries later, Kathleen received a layoff notice and Emmy Award—both in the same week. Over the next few years Kathleen discovered and committed to her lifelong passion for Spirit. After a lifetime of spiritual pursuits, and three years of focused study, Kathleen became a licensed minister in 1996. She was ordained in June of 2002.
From 1994 to 1998 Kathleen designed and facilitated full and new moon ceremonies for women. She served as founding minister to Heart & Soul Ministries from 1998 to 2000. From 2003 to 2006 Kathleen served as minister at Abundant Life Center, an independent New Thought church in Vancouver, Washington.
Kathleen has designed and taught a wide variety of spiritual classes and workshops: personal empowerment, discovering right livelihood, prosperity, introduction to mandalas, chakras, the Divine Feminine, Celtic spirituality, world religions, and various aspects of how to create ritual and ceremony. She is a popular guest speaker at a variety of Portland area New Thought churches. Kathleen has had numerous articles published in a variety of local newspapers, including The Portland Observer and Community ConneXions. In 1998 Kathleen was a featured author in Chocolate for a Woman’s Heart, the sequel to the best-selling Chocolate for a Woman’s Soul. An avid student of world religions, Kathleen is particularly interested in Celtic Spirituality. Her Irish roots (daughter of Mary Kathleen Connolly McKern) motivated her to take several trips to The Emerald Isle. In the spring of 2000 Kathleen spent a month in Ireland on a solo pilgrimage of the soul. It was there that she studied and practiced the elements of Celtic spirituality. She shared this knowledge at Unity of Beaverton every six weeks with “Turning of the Wheel” ceremonies. The ceremonies honored the solstices, equinoxes, and the four cross-quarter festivals in between. For wedding couples interested in Celtic spirituality, Kathleen offers an ancient hand-fasting ceremony given to her by a High Priestess in Ireland. She has designed & guided numerous sacred site tours to Ireland. Interested travelers, women and men, can learn details by visiting the website for Anam Cara Tours LLC: www.anamcaratours.com

ACC’s governing body is a core council made up of five to seven adults. Leadership is built on concentric circles, beginning from the inside out, mirroring the essence of life itself. Meetings are held quarterly, and are open upon appointment. The executive council meets in between the quarterly meetings. The annual meeting is held in late January. It too is open for others to attend.
